Travis Head gives Perth a reason to remember a two-day Test match

Image
ICC World Test Championship "Batting orders are overrated". This was a statement given by the Aussie red-ball captain  Pat Cummins  a few days back. Cummins was not part of the XI that played at Perth against their rivals England on a nightmarish Optus Stadium pitch. However, he saw his statement come true 'by chance' in a span of two days when  Travis Head  smoked the English bowlers all around the park with such disdain in the fourth innings to give his team an eight wicket win. A match that lasted only 847 balls and saw 32 wickets fall within six sessions had only one 50+ score in the first three innings until Australia were forced to shuffle their opening pair due to a niggle  Usman Khawaja  picked up in the match. Khawaja also did not open in the first innings when  Labuschagne  partnered the debutant  Jake Weatherald .  After opting to bat first on a pacy, uneven pitch England saw the wrath of steamy  Mitchell Starc , the fi...

Fierce South Africa wander into the den of subcontinent's giants

ICC World Test Championship Test cricket is back to Kolkata. The historic venue which last hosted Test cricket back in 2019, will be the at the helm of affairs when visitors South Africa, the current WTC champions take on hosts India. The Freedom trophy is currently held by the Africans on virtue of a series win in 2021-22 and a 1-1 draw in 2023-24 . This will be the first time they will be visiting India after 2019 when they were completely annihilated 3-0 under  Virat Kohli 's leadership. Since then India has travelled the other way twice on the aforementioned occasions. However, the air in the African camp this time around is different.  Temba Bavuma  and his men are currently holding the champions tag of the World Test Championship after a win for the ages against Australia at the Lord's cricket stadium in June this year. There is a sense of silent confidence among the African players after their 1-1 result against Pakistan last month on tough turning wickets. Their...

Indian women send a strong message to the organizers with a World Cup Win

Image
Women's Cricket It's been exactly one week since that triumphant evening at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai where the Indian women went on to create history by winning their first Women World Cup against a resilient South Africa. A win that is being earmarked as something similar to the 1983 World Cup win for the men. Although, in my eyes this win is in many ways different to that by Kapil Dev's men. Precisely, because the Women's cricket in India stood way ahead of where the men were in 1983 and hence they deserve a lot more respect, even if this tournament had not ended up in their favor.                                     India Women celebrating the 2025 World Cup final win over  South Africa Women at DY Patil Stadium  © ICC Elaborating on the above, let's go back to the last time India hosted a Women's World Cup in 2013. The schedule for the biggest event in cricket's history inc...
