Bavuma and his band of brothers give the C-word a new meaning: Champions

ICC World Test Championship Oh captain! My captain! The whole South Africa is rejoicing in the triumph of their red-ball superstars. This team has managed to achieve something not just the African nation but many fans of this beautiful sport have been waiting for this team to achieve. For the past 27 years, this team has produced absolute legends of the game, warriors who always put themselves on the line for their country, for this team. Temba Bavuma has finally managed to fill that missing void against all odds fulfilling the dream many saw before he had arrived.  It's true that his team were considered the second favorites to win this title. Many ridiculed them for having it too easy on the way to the final. There was a second string team sent to New Zealand in between because of a clash with their newly started T20 league. Bavuma's men set them all aside with a resounding win at the biggest stage, the final of World Test Championship 2025. And now the trophy is theirs fo...

South Africa show how they "earned" their way into the final

ICC World Test Championship Day 2: South Africa finally unchoked an ICC final? AUS 1st innings 212 (Webster 72, Smith 66, Rabada 5-51) RSA 1st innings 138 (Bedingham 45, Bavuma 36, Cummins 6-28) AUS 2nd innings 207 (Starc 58*, Carey 43, Rabada 4-59, Ngidi 3-38) RSA 2nd innings 213-2 (Markram 102*, Bavuma 65*, Starc 2-53) About 5 days back, we saw Carlos Alacraz show the world the power of believing when he won the French Open after being 3 match points down in the 4th set. Yes, it's a miracle we have seen many times in sports before but what was special about the win was that Alcaraz was facing a opponent at the peak of his prowess. To snatch a victory from that situation was a spectacle that drew the whole world's attention. Today it wasn't just an individual but a team that has been labelled the C-word every time a new ICC tournament arrives. Not today though. Today was different. Today was a new dawn in South African cricket. It's days like these Aiden Markram would...

Pacers from both sides keep throwing tough punches at the batters

ICC World Test Championship Day 2: South Africa fight back but Australia finish the day strongly AUS 1st innings 212 (Webster 72, Smith 66, Rabada 5-51) RSA 1st innings 138 (Bedingham 45, Bavuma 36, Cummins 6-28) AUS 2nd innings 144-8 (Carey 43, Ngidi 3-35, Rabada 3-44) lead by 218 runs We have already seen 28 wickets fall in just 2 days of cricket at the Lord's cricket ground in this WTC final already. Rabada started it all with his 17th fifer yesterday. Captain Cummins hit back today with a 6-fer completing his 300th Test wicket in the process. But Rabada wasn't done. He came back in the second innings again firing all cylinders and partnered with Lungi Ngidi to remove 8 wickets and help South Africa keep the door open for the batters in the second innings. But the day belonged to Pat Cummins . He was immaculate yet again, showing why he is considered one of the best red ball bowlers to grace the game. His excellence can be measured with the fact that of the six South Afr...

Smith and Webster's contrasting journeys against some excellent bowling display

ICC World Test Championship Day 1: Advantage Australia. AUS 1st innings 212 (Webster 72, Smith 66, Rabada 5-51) RSA 1st innings 43-4 (Rickelton 16, Starc 2-10) trail by 169 runs It's no secret how much Steve Smith loves run scoring at Lord's. He now has the most runs by an overseas batter at the home of cricket with a highest of 215. So when the South African captain elected to bowl first on a typical Lord's wicket, all eyes were on Smith again when he walked out at 16-2 after Kagiso Rabada burst through with two wickets in four balls.  Smith was in his elements right from the start, tough to digest given he mentioned before the match he did not pick up the bat after his Champions Trophy dismissal of a full toss in the semi-final against India. The same however, cannot be said about Beau Webster who was very uncomfortable and honestly lucky to end up with 72 given the bowling team missed a chance to review a plumb lbw decision. Webster though showed remarkable improve...

Australia and South Africa face-off for the biggest prize in red ball cricket

ICC World Test Championship Hello Test cricket, how are you? It's back and back for good. After an overdose of white ball cricket, the next two months will see at least 15 Test matches starting of course with the final of World Test Championship 2023-25.
