Spirited Sri Lanka ride on Dinusha's fortitude to spoil the party for India

Image
ICC World Test Championship A 1-0 series win for India was marred by a poor last day of the series in the field as Sri Lanka led a courageous fightback from a feeble position and secured a remarkable draw at the SSC, Colombo. Starting the day, 16 ahead of India's score with only four wickets in hand after being asked to follow-on, their young prodigy, Sonal Dinusha in company of the lower order tormented the bowling as they kept yearning for the elusive final four wickets. India were a tad casual at the start of Day 5 letting the game slip slightly and on a pitch which refused to break, their bowling line-up could not replicate the magic they showed until that point. India lost crucial WTC points with this draw which means they need to win almost every game from here to make a case for the final-two spot. There were many positives for the visitors from their series with the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Manav Suthar putting in some exciting performances. However, the a...

Carse's blunder, Babar's return alters the mood in both camps

ICC World Test Championship England's one-sided win by an innings and 103 runs lifted the home side’s mood and gave a perfect welcome to Joe Root in his second term in-charge against Pakistan. Root who has led England in 66 matches, now has a Win-Loss record of 28-27. Ollie Robinson was awarded a second consecutive Player of the Match in the two appearances since his recall sharing a five-wicket haul with Josh Tongue in the first innings at Headingley. Jordan Cox, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence added fifties before the hosts wrapped up a dominant victory taking a 1-0 lead in this three-match Test series. However, England has sadly been hit by one more night-club debacle, this time in the form of Brydon Carse leaving their captain and former cricketers absolutely furious. Carse has been replaced by Sonny Baker in the squad as the ECB awaits details of the investigation around the whole event. Pakistan were missing the services of their regular captain and best batter, Babar ...

Starc floors Bangladesh and brings them crashing back down to earth

ICC World Test Championship We all can finally take a deep breath!! What was that Mackay? The second Test between Australia and Bangladesh lasted a little over five sessions, 750 balls to be precise with Australia claiming an innings and a 51-run victory to level the series 1-1. The blistering Mitchell Starc wrecked havoc on the Bangladesh batting lineup, breaking plenty of records on the way to his fourth career 10-wicket haul, winning both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards in the process. Pat Cummins corrected his decision from last game by winning the toss and opting to bowl on a rapid Mackay pitch which had extra bounce and more pace than Darwin. The 36-year old left-arm pacer from New South Wales unleashed chaos with his opening spell, leaving Bangladesh 12-5 in 6.4 overs as they eventually folded for 64, their fourth lowest total in cricket. 18 wickets fell on Day 1 and 12 more on the second, making this the second shortest Test ever, Downunder. Bangladesh, who ...

Robinson and Tongue cut the match ball and the Pakistan batting in half to share spoils equally

ICC World Test Championship No Ben Stokes, no Brendon McCullum, no problem for England. Joe Root's reappointment as captain of the English Cricket Test team commenced in a fine fashion. The bowling attack stepped up their game for the hosts, helping them win the opening Test versus Pakistan easily by an innings and 103 runs. Playing at his home ground, Root inserted the visitors to bat on a cloudy Leeds morning and he could not have asked for a better start. Ollie Robinson began with a perfect in-ducker to catch the young opener, Azan Awais plumb in front of the stumps. Barring a 91-run third wicket partnership in the first innings, none of the Pakistani batters showed any fight with both Robinson and Tongue taking five each wickets in the first innings. Pakistan were dismissed for a paltry score of 171. England's response came in form of half-centuries form Cox, Root, Brook and Lawrence helping their side take a lead of 409. The sub-continent team was again dismissed for 135 m...
